The White House responded sharply to CNN anchor Erin Burnett’s recent remarks about former President Donald Trump’s prolific activity on his social media platform, Truth Social.
During Wednesday’s edition of CNN’s OutFront, Burnett highlighted the volume and timing of Trump’s posts, revealing that since his second term began, the 79-year-old has made over 8,800 posts. Notably, there have been 44 nights when Trump posted at least a dozen times, with a record-setting 160 posts in less than four hours on December 1. Burnett described this level of activity as “actually terrifying.”
She pointed out that if any other president were posting so frequently late at night instead of resting, it would raise serious concerns. “You should say, ‘That’s not OK.
That’s something to be concerned about,’” she told viewers. Burnett also noted the content of Trump’s posts, which often include attacks on President Joe Biden, former President Barack Obama, and unsubstantiated conspiracy theories related to the 2020 election.
She suggested that these posts might be doing more harm than good for Republicans.
Burnett observed that while Trump’s tweets once commanded widespread attention, now his posts-such as images of people swimming in sewage or himself depicted on $100 bills-are largely going unnoticed. “That’s another weird thing about this, nobody’s even watching all this,” she remarked.
The White House’s Rapid Response team pushed back on X (formerly Twitter), sharing a clip from Burnett’s segment and dismissing her commentary. They called Burnett a “total moron” and took issue with her claim that people are not paying attention to Trump’s posts, adding a laughing emoji for emphasis. The post concluded by praising Trump as the “MOST TRANSPARENT PRESIDENT IN HISTORY!”
Burnett’s concerns about Trump’s social media habits were echoed elsewhere on CNN. On Tuesday, former FBI Director James Comey joined anchor Kaitlan Collins on The Source to discuss how Trump’s behavior has evolved.
Collins referenced Trump’s late-night posts about Obama and repeated debunked conspiracy theories. She asked Comey if he thought Trump was the same person he remembered from his time briefing him in the Oval Office.
Comey responded candidly, saying, “He doesn’t seem okay to me. And I know that sounds like a political shot.
It seems like there’s something wrong with the man. There was always something wrong with the man in that he lacks a moral center.
But this seems off, this middle of the night obsessive Truth after- not an actual truth, but a reTruthing, reTuthing on his platform, seems crazy to me.”
As Trump continues his frequent and controversial postings on Truth Social, the debate over their impact and implications shows no signs of slowing down.
