Car flips, hits light pole in crash at busy downtown New Orleans intersection

Drivers inside a car that flipped and hit a light pole at a busy downtown New Orleans intersection Thursday morning escaped the mangled vehicle mostly unharmed, according to a witness at the scene.

The crash occurred just after 7 a.m. at Calliope and St. Charles when a black Honda sedan rolled on its hood and landed under the Pontchartrain Expressway overpass.

Workers and commuters who witnessed the crash stopped to help the victims, helping to retrieve personal belongings from the vehicle as the two occupants embraced each other in a long hug near the crash site…
