Attorney for convicted murderer Duane Meyer granted more time for retrial request

OREGON, Ill. (WIFR) – Family and community members gathered Wednesday at the Ogle County Courthouse for a scheduled hearing on 43-year-old Duane Meyer’s request for a new trial.

In January, Meyer was found guilty of four counts of murder, two counts of aggravated arson, and one count of concealing a homicide in the 2016 deaths of his ex-wife, Margaret “Maggie” Meyer and their 3-year-old son, Amos.

In court May 13, Meyer’s defense attorney, Chris DeRango, argued transcripts from witness testimony in the January trial were not available when the motion was filed. With those transcripts now complete—a process that can take months—the defense asked for more time to revise its request for a new trial. The defense’s motion was granted without objection…
