Former law enforcement officer from Baltimore County sentenced for arson, wire and bank fraud conspiracies

GREENBELT, MD—A former Maryland law enforcement officer was sentenced Thursday to 70 months in federal prison for his role in a series of fraud and arson schemes, including a conspiracy to burn a vehicle for insurance money and filing falsified police reports.

Philip James Dupree, 42, of Pikesville, received the sentence from U.S. District Judge Lydia Griggsby. Following his prison term, Dupree will serve two years of supervised release. The judge also ordered him to pay more than $65,000 in restitution to an insurance company and $3,521 to a credit union. The 70-month term will be served consecutively to an unrelated sentence previously imposed in the District of Columbia.

Dupree, who formerly served as an officer with the Fairmount Heights Police Department, was convicted of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, arson, and bank fraud.
