Amtrak train strikes, kills Tonawanda man late Wednesday night

TOWN OF TONAWANDA, N.Y. — A Tonawanda man was killed Wednesday night after being struck by Amtrak train near Sheridan Drive.

Town of Tonawanda Police said officers responded around 10:38 p.m. Wednesday, following reports of a pedestrian struck by an Amtrak train. The incident happened just north of Sheridan Drive, near Military Road.

Investigators identified the victim as 63-year-old Michael Lukacz, who was later declared dead at the scene. He appeared “to have been attempting to walk across the train tracks when he was struck,” police said…
