Former Kentucky student indicted in baby’s death due in court ahead of status hearing

LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) — A former University of Kentucky student indicted in March in connection with the death of her baby in 2025 is due in court on Thursday for a pretrial conference.

Laken Snelling, 22, was indicted on March 10 and entered a not guilty plea to charges of first-degree manslaughter, abuse of a corpse, tampering with physical evidence, and concealing the birth of an infant.

The indictment stems from a late August 2025 investigation where an “unresponsive” baby was found by officers with the Lexington Police Department inside a closet in Snelling’s Park Avenue home.

Court documents show that Snelling allegedly admitted to giving birth and cleaning up any indication that she had. She was arrested several days after the infant was found and pronounced dead.

In September 2025, Snelling withdrew from UK. She was ordered to be electronically monitored at her family’s Tennessee home while the case was presented to a grand jury, which returned its indictment against her in early March…
