NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Former Richneck Elementary School Assistant Principal Ebony Parker is scheduled to return to court next week as her criminal trial begins in connection with the 2023 shooting of teacher Abby Zwerner at Richneck Elementary School.
Parker faces eight felony counts of child neglect tied to the incident in which a six-year-old student brought a handgun to school and shot his teacher, Zwerner, inside a classroom. Prosecutors filed one count for each bullet that was inside the weapon, according to court records.
The criminal proceedings follow a separate civil case in which Zwerner was awarded a $10 million settlement in November against Newport News Public Schools related to the shooting…
