Virginia Beach car owners are getting money back. The City Council voted unanimously to adopt the FY 2026-27 budget, which includes a 10.1% personal property tax credit worth up to $80 per vehicle—applied to each personal vehicle owned by a Virginia Beach resident, not just one.
That’s a meaningful distinction: own two cars, get two credits. Own three, get three. And because the relief targets vehicles rather than real estate, renters who own vehicles benefit just as much as homeowners.
What else changes in the city budget
The total net operating budget—covering both city government and Virginia Beach City Public Schools—comes in at $2,886,575,513, a 3.36% increase over last year, according to the city’s announcement.
