ComEd warns electric bills to spike 12% due to AI and data center energy consumption

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — ComEd customers across northern Illinois could soon see another spike in their electric bills, driven in part by soaring energy demand tied to artificial intelligence and data centers.

According to a report by the Chicago Sun-Times, residential customers are expected to see at least a 12% increase in monthly electric bills beginning in June, with the average bill rising from about $107 to roughly $120.
