Johnson County jury convicts woman of first-degree murder in Fairway officer’s death

OLATHE, Kan. (KCTV) – A Johnson County jury convicted Andrea Cothran of first-degree murder in the death of Fairway Police Officer Jonah Oswald. Jurors began deliberations May 14 and reached a verdict within hours.

Oswald was killed in August 2023 after responding to assist officers during a high-speed chase and shootout involving a stolen car, prosecutors said. Authorities alleged Cothran and Shannon Marshall stole the vehicle and led police through Johnson County before abandoning it near a highway ramp and running to a QuikTrip in Mission.

Cothran was arrested in a QuikTrip bathroom, while officers found Marshall in the men’s restroom. Prosecutors said Oswald was shot as officers attempted to arrest Marshall. Marshall was also killed during the incident.
