Nostalgia is having a major moment right now, as people yearn for the calmer and simpler times. Some are even seeking out the comfort of the past in the form of dining out. The Food Network just named its top 50 nostalgic food spots in the United States, and the oldest restaurant in Alabama made the list. Located just 20 minutes outside of Birmingham in Bessemer, The Bright Star Restaurant has been known for its tasty Southern comfort food with Greek influence for 119 years.
In an interview with People, The Bright Star’s owner Andreas Anastassakis was very pleased by the recognition from The Food Network and discussed the establishment’s rich history. Anastassakis explained that the restaurant did its best to have the main dining room resemble exactly how it looked when it first opened in 1915.
