Florida law puts local governments on alert

Florida’s new anti-DEI law has pushed local officials to review programs, public language, and policy decisions before restrictions become enforceable across counties and municipalities statewide next year.

Known as SB 1134, the measure limits local diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts, extending Florida leaders’ wider push to remove DEI programs from government operations and local policy.

Commission meetings moved the issue forward

Leon County and Tallahassee both placed DEI-related questions before commissioners this month, turning the new state law into an immediate concern for local government leaders and staff.

The county meeting was set for May 12, and the city meeting was set for May 13, giving both governments early opportunities to review possible policy changes.
