Scholars Bids Farewell After 15 Years, Worcester-Based Off The Rails to Take Over Downtown Boston Space

After 15 years at 25 School St in downtown Boston, beloved nightlife staple Scholars American Bistro & Cocktail Lounge will officially close this weekend, the business announced yesterday on Instagram. But the space won’t stay quiet for long.

A new concept called Off The Rails is slated to take its place in late summer 2026, marking the second location for the Worcester-based hotspot. Owned by Cliff Rucker and managed by partner Chris Besaw, the venue is known for its high-energy nightlife, live music, and themed events. The kitchen serves Nashville-inspired fare, dishing out options like chicken & waffles, barbecue platters, and other Southern-style comfort favorites.

“While it’s certainly bittersweet to say goodbye to Scholars as people have known it, we’re extremely excited for what’s next,” a representative for Off the Rails told What Now Boston in an email. “Off The Rails Boston will bring a completely reimagined experience to the space — combining live music, nightlife, elevated Americana-inspired food and drinks, and a high-energy atmosphere inspired by Nashville and Boston culture alike.”…
