SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — The Diocese of San Diego is advising the public to exercise caution after a group of men reportedly fraudulently posed as priests and offered sacraments to families in exchange for money, according to a social media post from the Mission San Luis Rey Parish.
According to the post, a group of men posing as Catholic priests and a bishop claim to be Guadalupan Missionaries of the Most Holy Sacrament and are reportedly attempting to offer sacraments to Catholic families in exchange for money.
The Diocese of San Diego says any sacraments conferred by these men are invalid and illicit. It also claims some members of the group were ordained priests but have since been laicized, or removed from the clergy, and have formed their own sect.
