Healthcare workers raise concerns over access and Medicaid system during discussion with Rob Sand

OTTUMWA, Iowa — Healthcare professionals from the Ottumwa and Des Moines area shared their experiences and frustrations with Iowa Gubernatorial candidate Rob Sand at the Ottumwa Public Library on Thursday.

Healthcare workers described overcrowded emergency rooms, staffing shortages, patients waiting hours for critical care, or being denied care altogether.

“Those outcomes that I have seen in the state of Iowa are incredibly tragic,” said Jillian Trent, a Unity Point Iowa Lutheran Hospital Nurse. “The amount of deaths that could be prevented just because we do not have the staff and resources. It’s truly abhorrent.”…
