DES MOINES, Iowa — It has been a muggy and breezy Friday out there, and this humid weather will continue through the weekend. This heat and humidity will increase storm chances tonight, and every day all the way through Monday and even into Tuesday morning if rain chances continue.
For Friday night, our severe risk includes much of central and western Iowa. Out west, the risk would include hail. Here in central Iowa, storms will arrive in the late evening, and the risk here should mainly be for wind.
The same pattern will repeat itself Saturday, Sunday and Monday with storms firing late in the day and the best severe chances being in the late afternoon and evening, though the best chances Sunday may come at night. Rain chances will then linger into the morning hours on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.
It should be noted that Sunday will also be a windy day before storm chances move in during the evening. Wind gusts on Sunday potentially reaching an excess of 40 mph.
Rain totals could exceed 2 inches or more in spots by Tuesday morning.
