One man has been killed following a car collision on University Avenue in Lubbock. The Lubbock Police Department (LPD) is still investigating, but they have released the crucial details.
Lubbock Fatal Collision
On May 14, LPD responded to a major car accident with injuries on the 4400 block of University Avenue around 3:30 in the morning.
When officers arrived, they found 35-year-old Joseph Vasquez suffering serious injuries. Vasquez was the driver and only occupant of his vehicle. He was rushed to University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Investigators state that an unmarked Texas Department of Public Safety vehicle was approaching the intersection of 50th and University. The trooper saw Vasquez speed through the red light, pressing the brakes to avoid a collision with Vasquez’s car.
Another police cruiser was in the vicinity and witnessed Vasquez’s disregard of the red light. Neither trooper was able to initiate a traffic stop because the fatal crash happened just moments later…
