Heavy rainfall will soon return to South Texas. Here’s when thunderstorms start.

South Texas has been treated to a dry, sunny and mostly pleasant week of weather. However, don’t put the rain gear away just yet. A significant weather pattern shift is coming to the region, and it could mean daily chances of showers and thunderstorms as we push into the upcoming work week.

While it’s still too early for some of the fine-tuned details – such as the exact timing and intensity of thunderstorms – long-range weather models are suggesting that multiple inches of rain will be possible across South and Central Texas. A flood threat might also present itself, especially by the middle to end of next week. Here’s the very latest.

Weekend forecast

For much of this weekend, dry weather is expected to continue for San Antonio. However, humidity levels will make the air feel significantly more muggy.

Saturday: Morning temperatures will sit in the 70s, rising steadily to near 80 degrees by 11 a.m. By the late afternoon, highs are expected to reach the lower 90s in San Antonio – about 5 degrees above average for mid-May. Partly cloudy skies can be expected, but rain is not expected throughout the region…
