Rockton’s Pelican Fest celebrates annual return of White Pelicans

ROCKTON, Ill. (WIFR) – Families came to downtown Rockton Saturday and joined a celebration of the annual migration of American White Pelicans and other birds to the Rock River region.

Pelican Fest took place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with a number activities for all-ages scattered throughout the village’s downtown area. Throughout the day, guests tried to collect all 23 bird cards from participating locations to enter a drawing and win various prizes.

A stage was set up in the parking lot of Rockton Food & Spirits, on the corner of W. Main and Prairie Streets. At 11 a.m., a welcome speech was given followed by a performance by the Rockford Barbershop Chorus at 11:15 a.m.

From noon to 1:15 p.m., a pelican costume contest was held, followed by a bird calling contest at 1:30 p.m. and a bird trivia contest at 2 p.m. At 3:30 p.m., winners are announced for a birdhouse decorating contest and drawings will take place…
