Old Town farmers market vendors absorb rising costs, for now

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – With prices rising across the board, some shoppers may be rethinking how they spend, even at the farmers market. Vendors at the Old Town Farmers Market in Wichita say they are feeling higher costs to operate, but also they are not raising prices yet.

Several small business owners said holding prices steady is getting harder as expenses climb, cutting into profits over time. Beyond the cost of supplies, some vendors said shipping and fuel-related increases are becoming a growing challenge.

“We use a lot of fuel for like a side-by-side, and diesel to go get feed, and the feed prices are going up and things like that. I mean, yeah it hits us hard, but we still want to be available the best that we can,” said Shawn Johnston with Homegrown Acres…
