Road to Mount Blue Sky summit set to reopen May 21

America’s highest paved road will reopen this week after being closed for over a year and a half.

Denver Parks and Recreation and the USDA Forest Service are set to reopen to road leading to the summit of Mount Blue Sky on Thursday. The road, which is the highest paved road in the country and leads to the peak of the highest mountain of the Front Range, has been closed since Labor Day 2024 as crews rebuilt portions of the road to address severe buckling and water drainage issues.

Denver Mountain Parks will lead operations at the Mount Blue Sky Recreation Area under a new agreement with the Arapahoe National Forest and Denver Mountain Parks Foundation.
