Police Search San Jose Home After 8-Year-Old Girl Found Unresponsive

Additional Coverage:

California authorities are actively investigating the case of an 8-year-old girl found unresponsive at a San Jose residence, where she sustained injuries severe enough to require life support. Officials were seen on Friday removing evidence from the home, which has been under scrutiny following previous welfare calls.

The situation came to light on Wednesday when emergency responders rushed the girl to the hospital. According to 911 dispatch records, she was unconscious, not breathing, and experienced cardiac arrest while en route. Details surrounding the incident remain scarce, as law enforcement has released minimal information.

A reporter from the Bay Area News Group observed San Jose Police Department investigators in protective gear carrying boxes out of the residence on Friday evening. Sgt. Scott Williams confirmed that officers had been conducting a search under warrant for several hours.

The home reportedly housed seven children, ranging in age from two months to sixteen years, alongside six adults. Multiple police calls had been made concerning the residence, including allegations that some of the children, notably the 8-year-old victim and another child, were underfed and primarily reliant on school meals for sustenance.

Sources close to the investigation disclosed that the Santa Clara County Department of Family and Child Services (DFCS) had previously visited the home and deemed it suitable for habitation despite conditions described as squalid, marked by the presence of animal feces and urine.

This incident has intensified ongoing concerns about DFCS, which has faced criticism and leadership changes in recent years due to its handling of child welfare cases. Past reports have highlighted instances of child abuse and neglect resulting in fatalities under the department’s oversight.

In response to the girl’s hospitalization, DFCS issued a statement expressing that the circumstances are “heartbreaking” but declined to comment on any involvement or prior contact with the family involved.

Authorities continue to investigate the matter as the community awaits further updates on the girl’s condition and potential legal actions.
