Randolph earns ‘Green Community’ status

Residents in Randolph could soon see lower municipal energy costs and cleaner air, thanks to a new state designation that opens the door to grant funding for local energy projects.

The Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources has named Randolph a Green Community, according to a community announcement. The designation means the town has committed to reducing energy use and emissions through clean energy and energy efficiency initiatives.

After the town submits its project plans and they are approved by DOER, Randolph is eligible to receive up to $242,930 for energy efficiency projects in municipal and school facilities and fleets. The town has pledged to reduce its energy consumption by 16,412 MMBTUs over five years, which is expected to save about $220,900 annually and cut greenhouse gas emissions by 786 tons…
