Tractor-trailer leaves emergency lane, hits another on I-77, sparking fiery crash, troopers say

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Authorities are providing new details about a fiery I-77 crash that slowed traffic for hours in Richland County on Sunday.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol said the crash happened just before 6 a.m. when one tractor-trailer attempted to merge from the emergency lane onto I-77 northbound near Killian Road.

Authorities said this tractor-trailer then struck another tractor-trailer traveling northbound on the interstate. The one already on the road flipped and caught fire. The driver was taken to the hospital with injuries troopers said were not believed to be life-threatening…
