Everyone’s talking about data centers. Here’s why

All across Ohio – at the Statehouse, in city council meetings and at dining room tables – people are talking about data centers.

At one time, these hyperscale campuses that power everything from AI to social media were welcomed by Ohio officials. That’s led the Buckeye State to become home to more than 200 data centers, the sixth most in the country.

But public opinion about data centers is changing. It began with lost trust in public officials, quiet deals and NDAs … and outrage at council meetings. It’s led to a citizen movement to get a data center ban on the November ballot…
