Tornadoes possible with severe storms later today, this evening

Today is the day we’ve been watching closely, and confidence continues to increase that parts of southern Minnesota and northern Iowa could see significant severe weather later this afternoon and tonight.

The Storm Prediction Center continues to highlight the region in an enhanced severe weather risk area, including a 10% tornado risk across portions of the area. That level of tornado risk is fairly significant for our part of the country and means conditions could support multiple tornadoes later today, including the possibility of a strong tornado somewhere in the region.

Storms are expected to develop later this afternoon to the west and southwest, then move into southern Minnesota and northern Iowa during the evening hours. Right now, the highest risk window appears to be from late afternoon through mid-evening, although exact timing will likely shift somewhat as the situation evolves…
