A Capital Region resident is warning neighbors after nearly falling for what appears to be a convincing scam involving a fake Spectrum notice left right at their front door.
According to resident, Paul Coleman, via the Nextdoor app, someone stopped by their home and placed an official-looking paper in the screen door claiming there was an issue with their Spectrum account.
It Looked Like A Real Notice
The notice reportedly said the company had attempted to call and instructed the customer to contact a phone number listed on the paper. At first glance, the notice looked completely legitimate.
But instead of calling the number directly, the resident decided to play it safe and contacted Spectrum through the official account portal online. That’s when things got suspicious.
Spectrum Representative Couldn’t Verify
Coleman says the Spectrum representative they chatted with told them the notice “made no sense” and could not verify the information on the paper. Even more concerning, the resident said they never received the phone call the notice claimed had been attempted.
After doing a quick Google search of the number listed on the flyer, the resident reportedly found multiple online results labeling it as a possible “Spectrum scam.”
