Ocala’s John Travolta pilots jet to France for directorial debut, lifetime achievement award

Ocala’s most famous resident, John Travolta, made a triumphant and deeply personal appearance at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival for the world premiere of his directorial debut, where he was brought to tears with a surprise presentation of a lifetime achievement award.

A lifelong aviation enthusiast, the 72-year-old actor and pilot famously piloted a jet to the festival for the premier of Propeller One-Way Night Coach with his daughter, Ella Bleu Travolta, who stars in the film.

The family-friendly adventure film, which premiered in a non-competitive section on May 15, is an adaptation of Travolta’s own 1997 children’s novel.

The evening proved to be a milestone moment for Travolta, who was not only celebrating his new film but was also moved to tears when he was surprised with a lifetime achievement Palme d’Or for his decades-long contribution to cinema.

Propeller One-Way Night Coach follows a young airplane fan named Jeff, played by Clark Shotwell, and his mother, Kelly Eviston-Quinnett, on a cross-country flight to Hollywood that transforms a simple trip into a magical, life-changing odyssey. Travolta serves as the movie’s narrator and portrays the older version of Jeff, while the cast is rounded out by Olga Hoffmann…
