A local teen was arrested nearly two weeks after authorities say he sped away from a traffic stop to avoid a vehicle search.
Harold Dalton, 19, of Wildwood, was taken into custody without incident at about 6:40 a.m. Thursday after a Sumter County sheriff’s deputy spotted his blue Dodge Ram pickup truck traveling on County Road 462 with an expired license plate.
The arrest stems from a May 2 traffic stop near State Road 44 and Main Street in Wildwood. A deputy originally pulled Dalton over in the Sparr Building and Farm Supply parking lot for a broken passenger-side brake light.
During that initial stop, the deputy noted a strong odor of marijuana coming from the truck. When asked if he had a medical marijuana card, Dalton reportedly said he did not and denied having any drugs in the vehicle.
