WASHINGTON (7News) — A taste of summer-like heat is in the forecast beginning Monday, and will last through midweek. High temperatures will soar to the mid-90s around the entire DMV. Some areas may approach 96 to 97 degrees.
A forecast high of 95 degrees at Reagan National Airport, the official reporting location for Washington, D.C., will challenge a record that has stood for 149 years, which is 96 degrees set in 1877.
Fortunately, humidity will not feel as bad as middle to late summer, and dry conditions are expected for much of the D.C. area. However, a pop-up shower or storm is possible for areas well to the north and west of the Capital Beltway.
Overnight low temperatures will only dip into the 60s and 70s across the area, which will set the stage for another hot Tuesday with highs soaring into the middle 90s again.
By Wednesday, a strong cold front attached to a weather-maker is expected to bring widespread showers and storms and a noticeable drop in temperatures for the rest of the week.
