‘I’m crippled for life’: Couple sues Ballston Spa police officer over man’s injuries

BALLSTON SPA — A couple who called 911 seeking help for their son, who was reportedly acting aggressively and belligerently, claims in a federal lawsuit that they were assaulted by a responding village police officer.

William and Kerry Huyben are suing the village, the police department and Officer Edward Ackley for damages connected to the October 2024 incident, alleging that Ackley’s actions led to William Huyben’s leg breaking in two places and his kneecap shattering.

“I’m crippled for life,” he said Thursday. “I can’t walk well. My wife and I can’t enjoy the things we used to.”…
