Memphis man found guilty of shooting, killing woman outside her apartment, DA’s office says

SHELBY COUNTY, Tenn. — A Shelby County jury on Friday convicted a 43-year-old man of shooting to death a woman outside of her North Memphis apartment two years ago after she found out he stole money from her and broke up with him, officials said.

According to the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office, Joshua Banks, of Memphis, was found guilty of first-degree murder in the deadly shooting of Geneva Gladney in October 2024.

Prosecutors said Gladney was shot and killed outside of her University Gardens Manor apartment after a relationship with Banks, who, they said, threatened her family after she accused him of stealing $900 from her bank account.

The DA’s office said surveillance video also placed Banks’ car at the apartment complex around the time of the shooting…
