Following the recent closure of Cafe Dolma in Jersey City, a new concept may already be moving into the space. Dutch’s Sandwich Shop, which currently has locations in Montclair and Hoboken, is preparing to bring a new concept called Dutch’s Express at 270 Grand Street. About Dutch’s Sandwich Shop
Dutch’s Sandwich Shop first opened in Montclair in 2023 at 16 Church Street. According to its website, the shop offers a mix of classic favorites alongside more creative, signature sandwiches. It was a lifelong dream of owner Amir Kamal to make sandwiches that combine his love of the arts and music into the joy of making sandwiches. The walls are decked out with famous fiction and nonfiction characters, and sandwich names are inspired by music and movie titles.
The shop’s name comes from Amir Kamal’s late Olde English Bulldog, Dutch, and pays tribute to this beloved family member and built in best friend of Amir.
Crowd favorites on the menu include The Flying Dutchman, made with chicken cutlet, hot pastrami, melted pepper jack, grilled banana peppers, and Dutch Daddy sauce on a hero. Another popular choice is the “WHACKED!,” an Italian-style sandwich that’s chopped and tossed with mayo and romaine lettuce.
