Franklin County stepmother sentenced to 70 years in killing of 8-year-old

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Va. (WSET) — A Franklin County stepmother faced sentencing on Monday for a first-degree murder charge in the February death of an 8-year-old.

ABC13 was in court, where Mary Marie Everson was sentenced to 70 years behind bars. 37 of those years were suspended for an active sentence of 33 years.

On Feb. 8, 2026, around 6:00 p.m., deputies responded to a call at a home on Circle View Drive for an unconscious and unresponsive child. First responders arrived and reported finding the child dead. The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office then arrested the father and stepmother of the child…
