Original Tommy’s Turns 80

Lots of energy buzzing at all Original Tommy’s locations across Southern California last Friday, as Angelenos celebrated the burger chain’s 80th anniversary with 80-cent chili cheeseburgers and a daylong tribute to one of Los Angeles’ most enduring food institutions.

Original Tommy’s marked the milestone with 80-cent chili cheeseburgers — normally priced at $5.50 — drawing crowds until 8 pm from all over SoCal eager to celebrate the longtime local favorite.

While locations across the region joined the anniversary celebration, the biggest gathering took place at the original Beverly and Rampart “Shack”, where founder Tommy Koulax opened the first stand on May 15, 1946…
