Local Makerspace Looks To Grow With Purchase Of New Building

The Cape Fear Makers Guild is growing its local footprint with the purchase of a former dry-cleaning building on South 17th Street in Wilmington.

The nonprofit community makerspace purchased the roughly 4,500-square-foot building at the end of April, according to deed records. The makerspace has operated out of an approximately 1,200-square-foot, first-floor space at 273 N. Front St. in downtown Wilmington since early 2023, according to Doug Hamerski, executive director of the Cape Fear Makers Guild.

Hamerski founded the volunteer-run Cape Fear Makers Guild in 2022, a few years after learning about makerspaces – community workspaces outfitted with shared tools and technologies.
