Next Generation Very Large Array antenna protype gets ‘first light’

NEW MEXICO (KRQE) — The future of radio astronomy is happening right here in New Mexico.Scientists are celebrating a milestone for the next-generation of the Very Large Array prototype antenna on the plains of San Agustin, New Mexico.

The prototype made its first observations of the Crab Nebula, which tells scientists that the antenna is working. The prototype is expected to be 10 times more effective in collecting area and resolution at a lower cost.
