‘I think Denver is a little bit late to the dance’| Denver may ban new data centers, but not before a big and thirsty one gets built

DENVER — The Denver City Council is set to vote Monday night on a proposed one-year moratorium on new data center construction in the city. The vote comes despite construction well underway on a data center in the Elyria-Swansea neighborhood that is estimated to use far more water and power than anything currently operating in Denver.

The moratorium, co-sponsored by council members Darrell Watson and Paul Kashmann, would halt the acceptance and processing of new zoning permits and site development plans for data centers while the city drafts regulations governing energy use, water consumption, noise and placement.
