New restaurant, community farm receive grants in Bethlehem

DELMAR, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Two small businesses in Bethlehem have been awarded grants as part of the town’s Microenterprise Grant Program. Stacked Grill in Delmar and Sunray Community Farm in Glenmont both received $20,000.

The grants are funded through the New York State Office of Homes and Community Renewal. They are designed to support businesses owned by low-to-moderate income individuals and/or businesses that create job opportunities for low-to-moderate income families.

“Small businesses are the backbone of Bethlehem’s economy,” said Town Supervisor DavidVanLuven. “These grants help local entrepreneurs invest in equipment, expand services, createjobs, and strengthen our commercial districts. We are proud to support businesses thatcontribute to the vitality and character of our community.”

Following a review by the Microenterprise Grant Application Review Committee, six businesses were approved for grant by the town board in February. After a second round of application review, Stacked Grill and Sunray Community Farm were approved on May 13.

Stacked Grill

Located at the Four Corners in Delmar in the space previously occupied by Foco Taco, Stacked Grill opened just last week. The fast-casual restaurant is designed to appeal to families, local residents and takeout customers. Grant funds are requested to support startup operations and initial business needs, including inventory, packaging and small wares, furniture and general operational supplies for the catering operation.

Sunray Community Farm

Sunray Community Farm recently signed a three-year lease in agreement to operate at the Heath Farm in Bethlehem. They plan to establish a small-scale, community-based regenerative farm and nursery. The farm is a community-oriented educational space and will provide opportunities for people to participate in agricultural activities.
