Expert questions effectiveness of prosecuting parents for teen crimes

WASHINGTON (7News) — “Starting today, my office will aggressively prosecute parents under D.C.’s curfew law, and it involves contributing to the delinquency of a minor,” U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro said Friday as federal prosecutors announced a tougher stance on parents tied to juvenile crime in Washington, D.C.

Pirro said the law makes it illegal for adults to “enable, facilitate, or permit a minor to engage in delinquent acts,” signaling that prosecutors could pursue charges against parents connected to recent teen disturbances across the District.
