Beaufort County warns Verizon outage may affect 911 calls; residents urged to use alternate number

BEAUFORT COUNTY, S.C. (WTOC) – The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents that a Verizon outage could affect some customers’ ability to dial 911.

As of 8 a.m. Tuesday, May 19, 2026, the Sheriff’s Office said it received information from Verizon regarding outage issues that may impact emergency calling.

Officials said Verizon customers who are having trouble reaching 911 should call the Sheriff’s Office non-emergency dispatch line at 843-524-2777 to reach emergency services…
