California Department of Fish and Wildlife officers arrested two men on Mattole Road on Monday as part of an ongoing investigation, and law enforcement activity was again reported in the area Tuesday, according to scanner traffic and booking records.
Thomas Aaron Kough and Trevor Davis Sands, both arrested at 12:43 p.m. Monday by CDFW Officer M. Hampton, each face seven misdemeanor charges related to the unlawful take and possession of wildlife and multiple violations of state abalone regulations.
Charges against both men include unlawful take of wildlife, unlawful possession of wildlife taken in violation of the Fish and Game Code, and unlawful commercial take of abalone in restricted districts. They are also charged with taking or possessing red abalone smaller than seven inches in diameter, using prohibited gear including SCUBA or surface-supplied air to take abalone, failing to carry a required measuring gauge, and failing to possess a required Abalone Report Card…
