Scotia man gets 10 years for attempted coercion

SCOTIA, N.Y. (NEWS10) — A Scotia man arrested as part of Operation Restore Justice received a 10-year prison sentence for the attempted coercion and enticement of a minor. The United States Attorney’s Office said Gary Yorkshire, 69, was also sentenced to 10 years of probation.

Yorkshire admitted through a guilty plea that he communicated with someone to talk about and plan sexually abusing someone he thought was 12 years old. After arriving at a pre-determined spot, the DA’s office said Yorkshire paid $250 to an undercover agent to have “regular sex” with the child before authorities arrested him.

“Prosecuting those who prey on our children is amongst the most important work we do at the U.S. Attorney’s Office,” First Assistant United States Attorney John A. Sarcone III said. “This Administration’s commitment to our children via Operation Restore Justice should be a clear message to anyone wishing to engage in nefarious crimes against children: you will be caught, and you will face justice.”…
