Alligators prompt closure of splash pad in St. Matthews, DNR to investigate

ST MATTHEWS, S.C. — Two unexpected visitors have temporarily taken over the splash pad at Lake Inspiration in St. Matthews.

Town officials closed the splash pad and nearby playground after a contractor clearing brush near the area spotted two alligators. One was estimated to be about seven feet long, while the other measured around three feet.

“We had a contractor that was clearing some brush around our splash pad, um, where we have, um, playground equipment and a splash pad for the kids to play in the water and um, he saw a seven-foot alligator and a 3-foot alligator while he was clearing the brush,” Town Administrator Rosyl Warren said…
