Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s public displays of affection were nothing if not memorable during their relationship. Though the former couple divorced in 2022, fans continue to revisit moments from their time together, including a recently surfaced throwback video showing them in their 2016 Met Gala attire. In the clip, Kim, 45, playfully licks the side of Kanye’s face, prompting the rapper, 48, to break his serious gaze and smile.
This nostalgic glimpse emerged amid a very different kind of headline involving Kim’s $1 billion shapewear company, Skims. On May 18, authorities disclosed that a British court sentenced a truck driver for smuggling nearly $9.4 million worth of cocaine concealed within a shipment of Skims clothing.
Jakub Jan Konkel, 40, was stopped at a port in Essex in September 2025 while transporting 28 pallets of Skims merchandise from the Netherlands. Officials discovered 198 pounds of cocaine hidden in a secret compartment at the back of his truck, cleverly disguised amid the legitimate shipment.
The National Crime Agency (NCA) clarified that neither Skims nor its exporter and importer had any connection to the drug smuggling operation. Photos released by the NCA showed the concealed drugs wrapped in small packages within the clothing shipment.
Although Konkel initially denied involvement, he later admitted to transporting the cocaine in exchange for 4,500 euros (approximately $5,243). The Chelmsford Crown Court sentenced him to 13 and a half years in prison.
“Organized crime groups use corrupt drivers like Konkel to move Class A drugs, often hidden on entirely legitimate loads such as this,” said NCA operations manager Paul Orchard. He added that the seizure removed a significant quantity of cocaine and deprived the criminal network of a key facilitator.
This case highlights the challenges legitimate businesses face when criminal organizations exploit their shipments, underscoring the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat drug trafficking.
