Avon Teen Gets 2 Years After Castleton Mall Holiday Shooting Scare

A 19-year-old Avon man has been sentenced to two years in prison and two years of probation after admitting to an intimidation charge tied to the December shooting at Castleton Square Mall, a case that rattled holiday shoppers and briefly shut down the busy northeast-side shopping center.

According to WTHR, Aaron McClure pleaded guilty on May 11 as part of a plea agreement and was sentenced Tuesday in Marion County. The judge ordered a two-year prison term followed by two years of supervised probation, the outlet reports.

What Happened At Castleton Square Mall

Off-duty officers and shoppers reported gunfire inside Castleton Square Mall around 8:30 p.m. on Dec. 23, 2024, leading to an evacuation as stores quickly closed and investigators swept the concourse. A man later showed up at Eskenazi Hospital with an apparent gunshot wound, and there were no immediate reports of multiple injuries, as first reported by WISH.

Evidence, Hospital Visit And Arrest

Court documents in the case describe surveillance footage showing McClure with his right hand on a handgun in his pocket, and detectives say he told them he had been shot by someone with whom he had a prior conflict. Officers later located McClure in Avon, and he was taken to Eskenazi Hospital for treatment of an apparent leg wound before being re-arrested, as reported by WTHR.
