Man arrested at Jacksonville City Council meeting found guilty of battery on an officer, resisting

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A Jacksonville man was found guilty by a jury Wednesday of resisting and committing battery against an officer during a 2025 Jacksonville City Council meeting.

On May 27, 2025, in response to behavior in the crowd, City Council leadership ordered the removal of anyone who caused further disruptions. After another alleged violation of chamber rules, co-defendant Leah Grady was told to leave and arrested after refusing, according to the State Attorney’s Office.

“During this interaction, Cauley stood up, began recording, and blocked the area where officers instructed Grady to leave. The officer put his arm up to separate Cauley from Grady and attempted to direct Cauley to back up. Cauley pushed the officer’s arm away, resulting in the officer physically removing Cauley from the area and placing him under arrest,” State Attorney Melissa Nelson wrote in a release following the verdict…
