A tragic case of prolonged child abuse has come to light in Long Island, where prosecutors allege a 7-year-old girl endured horrific mistreatment before ultimately being killed. Jor’Dynn Duncan suffered months of what authorities describe as “sadistic abuse” inflicted by three generations of women living in the same Bayport household.
According to Suffolk County prosecutors, Duncan was subjected to relentless cruelty at the hands of 50-year-old Emily Kelly, her mother Barbara Renner, 75, and 24-year-old Elyssa Seymore. Kelly, who was granted custody of Duncan-her fiancé’s daughter-faces multiple serious charges including second-degree murder, reckless endangerment, unlawful imprisonment, and endangering the welfare of a child.
District Attorney Ray Tierney emphasized the prolonged nature of the abuse, stating, “This was not an alleged single act of violence. It was months of alleged systematic cruelty and sadistic abuse, meticulously documented.”
He further condemned the neglect, saying Duncan was “left to die” as her condition worsened, witnessed by the trio. “No child should ever endure such horror, and we will seek justice for Jor’Dynn,” Tierney added.
Child Protective Services had placed Duncan in this home in December 2024, with Kelly obtaining formal custody and guardianship by April 2025. Over the following year, Duncan missed approximately 40 days of school. Officials say Kelly and her family fabricated various excuses for her absences, citing fake vacations, illnesses, and family deaths.
On December 29, authorities responded to a 911 call reporting that Duncan was in cardiac arrest. Despite efforts at NYU Langone Hospital in Suffolk County, she was pronounced dead.
An investigation revealed she died from an untreated infection caused by numerous sharp force injuries. Prosecutors report finding about 90 stab wounds and bruises dating back to at least January 2025.
In addition to Kelly’s charges, Renner faces second-degree manslaughter and child endangerment charges, while Seymore has been charged with unlawful imprisonment and endangering the welfare of a child. Bail has been set at $5 million cash or $10 million bond for Kelly, $50,000 cash or $500,000 bond for Renner, and $25,000 cash or $250,000 bond for Seymore.
The community and officials alike mourn the loss of Jor’Dynn Duncan and are committed to ensuring those responsible are held accountable.
