Tri-State city rejects costly management training contract after resident backlash

CINCINNATI (WKRC) – Milford City Council rejected a proposed expansion of a consulting contract Tuesday night after a standing-room-only crowd packed council chambers and hallways to oppose the deal.

The debate centered on a proposed new contract with Management Essentials, a consulting firm that has handled the city of Milford’s marketing and communications, including social media efforts, since November of last year, for $2,000 a month. Last month, the company and Milford’s city manager proposed expanding the work to include executive training and other consulting, tripling the contract to about $90,000 a month.

At Tuesday’s council meeting, Milford’s mayor addressed the crowd.

“And we know that the crowd is here tonight for a number of these items, so we ask that when the time comes that you approach the podium, state your name, address, and all that for the record.”…
