Kansas veteran reflects on 39-year Navy career

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — One Kansas veteran served nearly 4 years in the Navy, flying missions over Vietnam and commanding an aircraft carrier.

Minnesota native Jim Maslowski joined the Navy in 1962 and made his way through Naval Aviation Cadet School.

“You went through the ground school, the various courses related to that, such as meteorology and electronics, and then you started flying airplanes,” Maslowski said.

Maslowski spent a lot of his career as a naval aviator in California, with many stints at Naval Air Station Lemoore and Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake were he served as a test pilot…
